In desktop app 2.0 and later, open the Focus menu and choose Help ▸ Troubleshoot this computer. The app checks itself on this computer and shows what it found, the most important finding first, for example “3 problems found”. Open the article takes you to the help article for the first finding. When everything is fine, the window says “No problems found”, and Open the article opens this article.
The check runs on your computer only. It uses what the app already knows, sends nothing and takes a moment.
What is checked
Section titled “What is checked”| Check | Finding | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Session | Nobody is signed in, or the session has expired | Choose Sign in… in the menu (signing in and expired sessions). |
| Local server | The app’s local server is not listening on its port | Quit Focus and start it again (the local server does not answer). |
| Permissions (macOS) | The Accessibility permission or a browser’s Automation permission is missing | Grant it in System Settings (macOS permissions). |
| Wayland (Linux) | The GNOME window extension is missing | Install the extension (install on Linux). |
| Tracking policy | Your company turned tracking off for you, or it is outside the tracking hours | Nothing to fix on the computer; ask your admin if this is unexpected (the desktop app menu). |
| Sync | Activity could not be sent for more than an hour, and why (network, sign-in or server) | Follow data is not syncing. |
| Clock | The computer clock is more than 5 minutes off | Turn on automatic date and time (data is not syncing). |
| Version | This version is too old to send activity | Install the latest version (update required). |
Outside the tracking hours the app sends nothing on purpose, so that finding is information, not an error.
When the check finds nothing
Section titled “When the check finds nothing”Some problems cannot be seen from the computer, for example a report filter in the dashboard or an admin setting. Try no data in reports, and if the problem stays, report a problem: the diagnostics you send let support see the same checks.
