Install on Linux

Desktop app 2.0 runs on 64-bit Linux and comes in three forms. Pick the one for your distribution:
| File | For | Updates |
|---|---|---|
| deb package | Ubuntu 22.04 or later, Debian and their derivatives | By hand, when the app tells you |
| rpm package | Fedora 38 or later and other rpm distributions | By hand, when the app tells you |
| AppImage | Other distributions, X11 session only | Automatic |
The links always download the latest version; Downloads in the dashboard offers the same files. The downloaded
file carries the version in its name, for example Workify360Focus-2.0.0-linux-amd64.deb. Use the name of your file
in the commands below.
Install the deb package (Ubuntu, Debian)
Section titled “Install the deb package (Ubuntu, Debian)”cd ~/Downloadssudo apt install ./Workify360Focus-2.0.0-linux-amd64.debThe ./ matters: it tells apt to install the file and the libraries it needs. Then start Workify360 Focus from
your applications menu.
Install the rpm package (Fedora)
Section titled “Install the rpm package (Fedora)”cd ~/Downloadssudo dnf install ./Workify360Focus-2.0.0-linux-x86_64.rpmThen start Workify360 Focus from your applications menu.
Run the AppImage (X11)
Section titled “Run the AppImage (X11)”The AppImage works in an X11 session only. On Wayland, use the deb or rpm package.
chmod +x Workify360Focus-2.0.0-linux-amd64.AppImage./Workify360Focus-2.0.0-linux-amd64.AppImageYou can also double-click it in your file manager after the chmod step.
The AppImage does not start
Section titled “The AppImage does not start”AppImages need the FUSE 2 library, which recent Ubuntu versions do not install by default:
# Ubuntu 22.04 and Debiansudo apt install libfuse2# Ubuntu 24.04 and latersudo apt install libfuse2t64Wayland and X11
Section titled “Wayland and X11”With the deb or rpm package, desktop app 2.0 records the active window in X11 and in most Wayland sessions:
| Desktop | What to do |
|---|---|
| Any desktop on X11 | Nothing. |
| GNOME on Wayland (the default on Ubuntu and Fedora) | Install the Focused Window D-Bus GNOME extension, see below. |
| KDE Plasma on Wayland | Nothing. |
| Sway, Hyprland and other wlroots desktops | Nothing. |
| COSMIC | Only idle time is recorded; the active window is not. |
GNOME on Wayland: the window extension
Section titled “GNOME on Wayland: the window extension”On GNOME with Wayland, Focus needs the Focused Window D-Bus extension to see the active window. Without it, the app records idle time only and shows the warning “Window tracking on GNOME needs the “Focused Window D-Bus” extension. Idle time is recorded without it; see the help link in the tray menu.”
- Open extensions.gnome.org in your browser and search for Focused Window D-Bus, or install it with the Extension Manager app.
- Turn the extension on.
- Log out and log in again, then start Focus.
Section titled “Sign in”The Focus icon appears in the system tray. On GNOME it needs the AppIndicator extension, which Ubuntu includes. Click
the icon, choose Sign in… and sign in with your Workify360 account on the page that opens in your browser
(auth.focus.workify360.com). Start at login is on after the first start, so Focus starts with your session.
What works differently on Linux
Section titled “What works differently on Linux”- Website addresses are not recorded on Linux. Time in a browser counts as time in that browser app.
- Ignore mouse movement is not supported on Linux: moving the mouse still counts as activity. The setting works on macOS and Windows only.
Updates
Section titled “Updates”- AppImage: updates itself. It downloads a new version in the background and installs it when you choose Install update and restart (2.0.1) in the menu, or by itself once nobody has used the computer for 10 minutes.
- deb and rpm: a notification says that a new version is available, and the menu shows
New version 2.0.1: download. It opens this page. Download the new package and install it with the same
sudo apt install ./…orsudo dnf install ./…command as the first time, then start Focus again.
Uninstall
Section titled “Uninstall”# debsudo apt remove workify360-focus# rpmsudo dnf remove workify360-focusFor the AppImage, quit Focus and delete the file.
